Sad news: Marcello Gandini is dead

Sad news floods the world, Marcello Gandini, arguably the greatest car designer there ever was and will be, has passed away. Keep reading to learn about him...

Marcello Gandini was not just a car designer, but rather an artist. His style that he brought to the automotive world is art. In my opinion, he could be compared to the greatest artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci, or Pablo Picasso. Because no matter what kind of vehicle he designed, it was simply a masterpiece in its own way.

The Turin-born designer created his most famous designs during his time at the Italian design house Bertone from the mid-1960s to 1980, designing the lines for cars such as the Alfa Romeo Montreal, the Maserati Khamsin, the original Volkswagen Polo, and the Ferrari 308 GT4. Gandini later parted ways with Bertone in his career and worked independently with car manufacturers like Citroën on the development of the popular BX and Renault on the design of the now legendary 5-Turbo hatchback model. Other notable Gandini designs include the original BMW 5 Series, the Lamborghini Espada, and the Cizeta-Moroder V16T. Other icons designed by him include the Audi 50, Maserati Shamal, De Tomaso Pantera, Lamborghini Urraco, Ferrari Dino 308GT4, Lancia Stratos, Alfa Romeo Montreal, Maserati Khamsin, Citroën BX, Qvale Mangusta, Bertone Pirana, Lamborghini Marzal, Innocenti 90/120, Cizeta V16T, Alfa Romeo Carabo, Renault 5 Turbo, Renault 5 Mk2, Iso Lele, Autobianchi A112 Runabout, BMW Garmisch, Lamborghini Miura, Lamborghini Countach, Bugatti EB110 and many more.
Gandini passed away yesterday at the age of 85, may he rest in peace.
