Porsche presents the new 911 ST

The time has come, after many test drives and prototypes we found on the website, Porsche finally unveiled the 911 S/T. Once again, it's an incredible creation from Porsche. Keep reading to learn the first details about the car and its technical features.

In celebration of the special anniversary of the iconic 911 sports car, the engineers in Weissach have designed a completely purist sports car dedicated to the joy of driving: the 911 S/T. This exclusive anniversary model combines the strengths of the 911 GT3 with the Touring package and the 911 GT3 RS, offering a unique blend of agility and driving dynamics. It pairs the powerful 4.0-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine from the 911 GT3 RS, producing 386 kW (525 PS), with a short-geared manual transmission. Complementing this setup is a relentless focus on lightweight construction and a suspension tuning optimized for agility and handling. Weighing in at just 1,380 kilograms (DIN curb weight, including all fluids), the Porsche 911 S/T becomes the lightest model of the 992 generation. The optional Heritage Design Package draws inspiration from the racing version of the 911 S from the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The design of the anniversary model incorporates Porsche's GT and motorsport expertise, resulting in remarkably agile and responsive driving characteristics, specifically designed for maximum driving pleasure on twisty country roads. The reduction of rotating masses in both the engine and the wheels and brakes ensures exceptionally dynamic responsiveness. The S/T responds instantly to driver commands, translating every steering movement, throttle input, or brake pressure with precision. Unlike the 911 GT3 RS, the 911 S/T's development primarily focused on driving on public roads rather than racetrack performance.

The name itself indicates that the new 911 S/T is the successor to a particularly performance-oriented version of the first-generation 911. Porsche offered a special racing version of the 911 S starting in 1969, internally known as the 911 ST. Through modifications to the chassis, wheels, engine, and body, acceleration, braking, traction, and cornering grip were significantly improved. These models did not feature prominent spoilers or other aerodynamic aids. The new 911 S/T channels the spirit of the original 911 S (ST) and translates it into the current generation of the Porsche 911. The anniversary model combines elements from the 911 GT3 RS with the body of the 911 GT3 with Touring Package and adds specially developed lightweight components for the 911 S/T. The result is a unique driving experience within the 911 GT portfolio.

The Porsche 911 S/T achieves its remarkably agile and responsive driving behavior, in part, thanks to its consistent lightweight construction. The front hood, roof, front fenders, and doors with their distinctive air intakes are made from lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP). The same applies to the roll cage, rear stabilizer, and rear subframe. Additionally, Porsche equips the anniversary model with magnesium wheels, the PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes) system, a lithium-ion starter battery, and lightweight glass as standard. Reduced insulation, the omission of rear axle steering, and weight savings in the drivetrain all contribute to the 911 S/T's DIN curb weight of only 1,380 kg. As a result, this performance-focused car is 40 kg lighter than a manual 911 GT3 Touring.

Exclusively developed for the 911 S/T, Porsche engineers created a new lightweight clutch. Paired with a single-mass flywheel, it reduces the weight of the rotating mass by 10.5 kg. This significantly improves the responsiveness of the naturally aspirated boxer engine, which now revs with exceptional power and immediacy. Combined with a six-speed manual gearbox featuring shorter gear ratios than the 911 GT3, the high-revving engine of the 911 S/T delivers even more direct and dynamic performance. It accelerates the 911 S/T from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and achieves a top speed of 300 km/h. The thrilling driving experience is further enhanced by the compelling sound of the standard lightweight sports exhaust system. The 911 S/T is the only 911 in the current generation that combines a double-wishbone front axle with a multi-link rear axle without rear axle steering. The dampers and control systems have been tuned accordingly.
