McLaren celebrates 50 years of US racing series with 650S Can-Am

The Can-Am racing series in the United States celebrate their 50th anniversary and that's enough reason for McLaren to come up with the special 650S Can-Am. The car is designed by the MSO department and is inspired by the Can-Am racers by McLaren in the 1960s. Only fifty copies will be available for a price of around 260.000 euros.

The success of the McLaren Can-Am was the use of the latest technology and lightweight materials. This principle is also used for the 650S Can-Am. For the first time since the introduction of the 650S the roof is made out of carbon fiber and next to that, the trunk, airbrake, front splitter and center of the rear bumper are also made out of the same material. MSO also developed a unique set of lightweight aluminum wheels which are installed with titanium bolts. The carbon ceramic brakes are standard on the McLaren 650S. At the back we see two small exhausts on both sides that should create the unique soundtrack of this model. Engine-wise nothing's changed and the V8 still produces 650 hp and 678 Nm of torque.
