From the depths of a Zurich underground garage emerged the gleaming body of a Porsche 959, as it graced the web page's spotlight for the very first time. A touch of mystery and history enveloped this iconic vehicle.

The Porsche 959, initially born as a Group B rally beast, evolved over time into a street-legal masterpiece that met the stringent FIA homologation regulations. From 1986 to 1989, it ruled the roads and proudly held the title of the world's fastest production car. A true legend, whose fame transcended the asphalt.

With its advanced technology, the Porsche 959 set new standards and paved the way for upcoming supercars. As a pioneer of all-wheel drive, it laid the groundwork for the legendary Porsche Carrera 4. Even the top minds at Porsche were so impressed with this system that all subsequent 911 Turbo versions adopted all-wheel drive as the norm. In 2004, Sports Car International crowned the 959 as the king of 1980s sports cars.
The birth of the Porsche 959, originally referred to as "Group B," dates back to 1981. Under the leadership of new CEO Peter Schutz, an era of dreaming and developing began. Chief engineer Helmuth Bott saw potential in the tried-and-true Porsche 911 and crafted a vision that would become reality. A sports car that could conquer not only the present but also the future. With a fascination for the rear-engine layout, they embarked on bold experiments that ultimately culminated in the groundbreaking all-wheel drive system. Schutz gave the green light, setting the wheels of innovation in motion.

A 2.85-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, powered by two turbochargers, pulsed at the heart of the 959. A dance between air and water cooling, between power and efficiency. A unique transmission concept bestowed upon this masterpiece five forward gears, an off-road gear, and the reputation of the street. This equally air- and water-cooled creation generated 331 kW (444 hp) and redefined the way power was transmitted to the asphalt.
