We’re done waiting, Ferrari has made a new extreme toy! The more powerful and more sporty version of the Ferrari 458 Italia isn’t named Challenge Stradale, Scuderia or Monte Carlo, but just Speciale. This car is definitely special because it wipes the floor with its competitors.
The recipe is old-fashioned, but that doesn’t make it less good. More horsepower and a reduced weight have to improve this car. The Ferrari 458 Speciale has up to 605 hp, more than 30 extra horsepower compared to the Italia. The car still has the same 4.5 liters V8 without any turbos. With up to 135 hp per liter, this car has the highest specific power for an atmospheric engine, ever. A true piece of art by Ferrari.
The weight of the car is reduced with 90 kilograms. This makes the Ferrari 458 Speciale sprint to 100 kph in 3.0 seconds. After 9.1 seconds you’ve already reached 200 kph. We don’t know the top speed of the car but that doesn’t matter that much, you won’t need it on the track. The car has a new and clever system for the track which is named Slip Slide Angle, which has to make it easier to drive this car on its limit. To create more grip, the car has some new Michelin tires, which are developed in cooperation with Ferrari. This results in a lap time of 1 minute and 23 seconds on Fiorano, almost just as fast as the Ferrari F12berlinetta which has an extra 135 hp compared with the Ferrari 458 Speciale.
The car looks even more sporty than it already did. The front bumper looks shaper and the back is characterized by two central exhausts. You can bet that these exhausts will produce a lovely roar when the 605 horses are released. We will see this car in Frankfurt and it will definitely get a lot of attention on this Motor Show.
